Roha Medical Campus Plc, a subsidiary company of the US-based Roha Group, proposes to set up a $300 million integrated healthcare facility in Addis Ababa. The launch was attended by the Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa City Adanech Abiebie; and founder of U.S. Roha Group and CEO of Roha Medical Campus Plc., Brooks Washington.
The Roha Medica Campus will construct five hospitals with more than1100 beds. It will offer the latest medical and surgical specialties, including organ transplant and oncology, using state-of-the-art technology. The facility is expected to offer world-class and affordable care to over 100,000 patients annually. The Campus plans to reserve 10% beds for the public sector to ensure the facilities are accessible to Ethiopians regardless of income.
Apart from offering specialized care, the Medical Campus is expected to save a substantial amount of foreign currency outflow for medical treatment and eventually transform Addis as one of the hubs for medical tourism, according to Health Minister Dr. Lia Tadesse. Additionally, the project will create over 5,000 jobs, said the investors. The Campus will have a medical school, research and innovation hub, and training center with simulation-based learning. The Project is expected to be completed within five years.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, CEO of Roha Medical Campus plc Brook said that Roha Medical Campus has the potential to create an Ethiopian hub for medical tourism, working with Ethiopian Airlines and local hotels to create travel packages for patients. US-based investment company, Roha Group, has a strong track record of building businesses in Ethiopia.
