Morocco and Israel have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on intellectual property (IP) to facilitate innovation and promote business relations between both countries. The MOU will ease the exchange of information between the Moroccan Industrial and Commercial Property Office (OMPIC) and the Israel Patent Office (ILPO). Speaking about the MOU, OMPIC’s Director-General Abdelaziz Babqiqi said that Morocco is committed to building a strong IP  eco system as it plays a key role  in economic, social, and technological development. The two institutions will also support small and medium-sized enterprises in the industrial property protection field.

Morocco ranks 52nd out of 129 nations on the protection of IP rights, according to the International Property Rights Alliance. The country has recently adopted strategy 2022-2026 to strengthen the IP system and support the innovation ecosystem to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Morocco also expressed its keenness to cooperate with Israel in water governance, agriculture, and scientific research.

The MOU was signed on 18th July in Geneva during the 63rd series of meetings of the General Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
