Mali’s Ministry of Economy and Finance said that the World Bank had allowed the lifting of the suspension of its financial operations in Mali. The suspension by the IMF was imposed in May 2021 after two coups in less than a year.

The Vice President, Western & Central Africa for the World Bank, Ousmane Diagana sent a letter dated July 18, 2022, to the Minister of Economy and Finance to this effect. It clearly mentions the lifting of the suspension of disbursements for projects and programs financed by the World Bank in Mali. The government sources in Mali posted the message on Facebook, which came as a big relief to the impoverished economy of the country. The decision was welcomed by the companies and people who are engaged in the services sector since this would kickstart the economy in anticipation of better liquidity in the system.

According to the consensus Mali and Ecowas reached, the country will hold presidential elections in February 2024, which will be preceded by a referendum on a revised constitution in March 2023 and legislative elections in late 2023.
