Libya Signs Agreement with AfDB for Digital and Financial Reforms

Libyan Minister of Finance, Khaled Al-Mabrouk, and the representative of the African Development Bank (AfDB) signed three agreements recently to strengthen the pace of economic development in LibyaLibyan Minister of Finance, Khaled Al-Mabrouk, and the representative of the African Development Bank (AfDB) signed three agreements recently to strengthen the pace of economic development in Libya.

The agreements were related to the African Development Bank’s provision of technical assistance to the Libyan Ministry of Finance in the areas of financial reform and the shift towards digital systems. The other agreement is for beefing up the food security in the country. The third was regarding emergency support for the Libyan regions and cities affected by Storm Daniel that hit regions of eastern Libya.

The agreements were signed after the Minister of Finance met in Tripoli a delegation from the AfDB headed by the Deputy Director General, Regional Office, North Africa, Malinne Blomberg, in the presence of the Director General of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB), Mahmoud Al-Futaisi, and representatives of UNICEF and the World Food Programme.

Al-Hamali stressed the cooperation between the Ministry of Finance and the AfDB, especially in supporting small and medium enterprises, capacity building, water projects, transportation, and the digital transformation project in the financial sector.

He noted the interest of the Minister of Finance, Khaled Al-Mabrouk, in opening new horizons of cooperation with the AfDB, in which Libya is considered one of the main contributors. These include establishing development projects that achieve the goals that the two sides seek in a way that brings great economic benefits to Libya, creates various job opportunities, and achieves diversity in sources of income that can lead to permanent stability in Libya.
