Libya may have a new special envoy soon, according to some reports. It is reported that UN Secretary-General António Guterres plans to appoint a former Senegalese minister to lead efforts toward peace in Libya. It is awaiting approval of the 15-member UN Security Council. Bathily would replace Jan Kubis who stepped down last December.
Libya has been a hotspot for turbulence ever since the ouster of long-time autocrat Muammar Gaddafi. The nation is split between rival eastern and western factions. Because of this, the oil output of the country has been severely disrupted. Recently, fighting has affected Tripoli also, where a number of killings took place recently.

The clashes erupted and ended suddenly, but public life has been affected. The rival factions have been adamant about their stand. Because of the continuing fights and turbulence, other powers are meddling with the country’s governance infringing its sovereignty. There is a presence of private forces in the country interfering with the day-to-day affairs of the country.
