Egyptian Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait said Egypt has sought strong synergies and economic partnership with Sudan, which he said, would lead to mutual benefits. Acceleration of bilateral trade, he opined, would lead to strong economic partnership and in cementing people-to-people contacts.

Recently, Maait had a  meeting with the Head of the Sudanese Customs Authority Bashir Al Taher and his accompanying delegation.  The visit of the delegation was mainly to familiarize with customs rules and procedures of Sudan.

Maait  said that his country was ready to provide the Sudanese Customs Authority with all its needs of training and qualified cadres. He also explained during the meeting  that Egyptian expertise in modernizing the customs system through issuing a new customs law, establishing a logistics center as well as applying the pre-registration of cargo information called “Advanced Cargo Information (ACI) would be beneficial to the Sudanese Customs Authorities.  This, he said, was aimed to simplify and speed up procedures needed for releasing goods, which contribute to verify exporters and importers, all through a single window online portal.

The head of the Sudanese Customs Authority expressed satisfaction over the outcome of his visit, particularly reaching an agreement with the Egyptian side in training and imparting skills to the officials. The two sides will be convening the joint customs committee every six months, which can lead to sharing of experiences between the two countries and toning up the skills of customs officials in Sudan.
