Egypt and Serbia agreed to boost political and economic cooperation. The two countries are looking for ways to deal with the global economic impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Egypt’s President, Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, was in Serbia on a three-day visit this week. It is three decades since an Egyptian president has visited Serbia and there has been an economic alienation between the two countries.
His host, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, said that the historic visit would bring together the two nations, which have great potential to expand their economic ties. The highlight of the visit was that the two leaders signed a partnership declaration. Vucic announced plans for a free trade agreement between the two countries by the end of the year. Importantly, several deals were announced at the business forum held involving businesses of both countries. Vucic said that the export of Serbian grain to Egypt was agreed upon, starting with wheat. Egypt is among the world’s largest importers of wheat, particularly from war-torn Ukraine.
