The 55-year-old WILLIAM Samoei Ruto was sworn in on September 13 in the presence of more than20 Heads of State at a packed stadium in Kasarani. He becomes the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya. He took the oath from Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi, in the presence of Chief Justice Martha Koome on a copy of Kenya’s constitution. His swearing-in came five weeks after he won the elections on August 9 poll. Though his opposition leader Odinga later challenged the election results in the Supreme court, the case was dismissed for lack of evidence. President Ruto has stiff challenges ahead. These include severe drought, the escalating cost of living, and a polarized country.
Deputy President RIGATHI Gachagua was also sworn in immediately after Ruto took the oath.
