As part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships between Algeria and Italy in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors, Algeria’s Minister of State for Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, met on Monday with Andrea Colombo, CEO of the Italian industrial and energy engineering firm Bonatti. The meeting took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in Algiers, with the Secretary of State for Mining, Karima Bekir Tafer, and other ministry officials also in attendance.
According to an official statement, the meeting served as a platform to explore new avenues for cooperation and investment between Algeria’s state-owned energy giant Sonatrach and Bonatti, a prominent European player in energy infrastructure and engineering.
Discussions centered on expanding upstream oil and gas operations, boosting natural gas production, and launching engineering and construction initiatives tied to the oil, gas, and mining sectors. Minister Arkab commended the strong and historic energy relationship between Algeria and Italy, describing the current collaborations as a model of trust-based partnership, knowledge exchange, and shared economic goals—particularly relevant in the context of the global energy transition.
Both parties agreed to deepen technical cooperation and promote joint investments, while also identifying new structural projects to drive growth in Algeria’s hydrocarbon sector. These efforts are intended to reinforce the Algerian-Italian alliance in energy and mining.
CEO Andrea Colombo affirmed Bonatti’s commitment to expanding its footprint in Algeria and continuing its productive partnership with Sonatrach. He also emphasized the company’s readiness to deliver innovative engineering and technical solutions to improve energy efficiency and support Algeria’s energy transition and emission reduction targets.
