The Libyan Fertiliser Company (LIFECO) announced recently that it had restarted operations at its second ammonia and its second urea plants with a production capacity of 80 percent for each plant. The National Oil Corporation (NOC) said the daily production of urea was about 1,400 tons, and that of ammonia was about 800 tons per day.

The restart of operations comes after a two-month stop caused by the oil production/export embargo. The company said the operations of the first ammonia plant will start in the next few days.  The NOC said the restart of production comes within the framework of its efforts to return petrochemical production, especially urea, because of its importance in the field of agriculture, and with the onset of the ploughing season to achieve Libya’s goals in achieving food security.

The National Oil Corporation is the national oil company of Libya. It dominates Libya’s oil industry, along with a number of smaller subsidiaries, which combined account for around 70% of the country’s oil output.
