The new head of state of Burkina Faso, Lieutenant-Colonel Damiba, announced a new government. The ministry formed last Saturday is expected to lead the country during a three-year transition period. There are 25 ministers in the cabinet including six women.
While announcing the cabinet, Damiba made the fight against jihadism and the rebuilding of the state as his priority. In the meantime, suspension of Burkina Faso by ECOWAS continues from its membership.

Damiba took power end January after overthrowing elected president Roch Marc Christian Kaboré . The deposed president was accused of ineffective and shoddy handling of jihadist violence that plagues the country. Several people have lost their lives, many injured and displaced due to violence let loose by the Jihadists. Sporadic violence had a heavy toll on the development of the impoverished Sahel country, which is one of the poorest countries in the world.

The present dispensation set a transition period of three years for a return to constitutional order and free elections. However, ECOWAS and the international community, particularly the western countries, are not appreciative of the long period of transition and they are insisting on a shorter transition time for installation of a civilian government.
