Zuma may Attract Disciplinary Action for Forming a New Party

The national executive committee of the ruling ANC announced that it had decided to summarily suspend Jacob Zuma as a member and said that disciplinary actions would be taken against the former president. This seems to be a direct reaction stemming from the decision of Zuma to form a new party, MK Party, which analysts feel may cut into the vote bank of ANC. He also made it clear publicly that he would not support the candidature of Cyril Ramaphosa, the official candidate of ANC and the Party Chairman.

ANC is presently facing a myriad of charges. Many feel that it is the first time, the party set up by legendary Nelson Mandela is facing stiff competition, which may not even garner the mandatory 50% of the vote on its own to form the next government. It may have to seek the support of like-minded parties to cobble up a government. In that case, it is the first time a coalition government will be in power in South Africa since 1994.
