The Zambia Tourism Authority (ZTA) has lifted Visa requirements for a select list of countries in a bid to revive the tourism sector after COVID 19. These include lucrative global tourism markets like the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, Norway, Australia, China, South Korea, Gulf states and the European Union. Already it has a no-visa policy for most African countries.
Tourism is the mainstay of the Zambian economy and contributed US$1.8 billion last year. The country has mapped out a Tourism Master Plan 2018 to 2038, a strategy to boost the economic contribution of the sector. The travel restriction on account of COVID 19 left a deep negative impact on the sector and resulted in huge loss of revenue and employment.
The Government wants to aggressively market its tourist destinations to become the most-visited holiday destinations in Africa. Zambia attracts global tourists to its famous Victoria Falls, vast wildlife resources, varied scenery, wilderness, diverse culture and national heritage, adventure activities and more. It also projects the country as a peaceful African country that has never been to war and people living in harmony.
