Zimbabwe keen on strategic partnerships with Switzerland

During his recent visit to Switzerland, Vice President of Zimbabwe, Constantino Chiwenga met Swiss President Alain Berset to discuss the possibilities of strengthening bilateral economic cooperation. The VP and Minister of Health and Child Care were in Switzerland for the 5th Patient Safety Global Ministerial Summit.

According to VP Chiwenga, following Zimbabwe’s efforts to improve the business climate, Switzerland has shown interest in ramping up its investments in Zimbabwe. Swiss companies have invested in various sectors. Some of the prominent Swiss companies present in Zimbabwe include Bata Shoe Company and Nestle Zimbabwe. In the health and pharmaceuticals sector, Zimbabwe has signed a Memorandum of Understandings with Roche and Novartis AG for the supply of medicines and equipment.

Chiwenga also informed that Zimbabwe was in the process of digitising its health management systems, formulating quality assurance frameworks, and seeking strategic partnerships. The country is keen to enter into a partnership for easy tracking of medical commodities to improve and strengthen the Ministry of Health and Child Care supply chain systems, the establishment of fully-fledged electronic health records and a national health data repository and capacity development in Zimbabwe for production of vaccines, medicines, and other medical commodities.

It was reported that the discussions will be carried forward by experts and Government officials for further action.
