ZESCO, Zambia’s national electricity utility, has entered into a USD 300 million partnership with Anzana Electric Group to extend electricity access to nearly 2 million people along the Lobito Corridor by 2030. This initiative will upgrade and expand the country’s electricity grid, bringing first-time connections to rural communities and supporting the government’s aim of universal electricity access.
The collaboration stems from a Memorandum of Understanding signed with Zambia’s Ministry of Energy in February 2025. It focuses on energizing homes, businesses, and industries, and bolstering energy reliability through distributed generation solutions, including run-of-river hydropower.
ZESCO’s Managing Director, Eng. Justin Loongo, emphasized the broader impact of the initiative on regional integration and job creation, while Anzana’s CEO, Brian Kelly, called the Lobito Corridor a strategic model for regional development.

As part of the agreement, Anzana will lead a pilot project in Zambia’s North-Western Province, beginning in 2026, that aims to connect 40,000 households and businesses and add 8 MW of generation. This initial USD 50 million effort will serve as a launchpad for wider electrification across the Lobito Corridor, a key economic link between Angola, Zambia, and the DRC.
