Zemen Bank of Ethiopia has announced a partnership with Mastercard for the introduction of the first-ever Mastercard branded prepaid contactless travel card in Ethiopia. The travel card will enable cardholders to use cards to transact in two currencies – the U.S. Dollars and Euros. It is the first time that a contactless card is issued in Ethiopia.

Zemen Bank is known for introducing banking technologies in the country. The bank envisions that this will pave the way for more e-commerce payments too, as customers are also able to book their flights and hotels using their cards. The Bank will also endeavour to bring other major currencies to be transacted through the card. Work towards that have already started.
