Huge demand for flour in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) pushed wheat production in Zambia close to 400,000 metric tonnes in 2021 from 205,000 metric tonnes the previous year, Grain Traders Association of Zambia (GTAZ) has said.
GTAZ spokesperson Yotam Mkandawire said that the high demand for flour in DRC has encouraged Zambian farmers to grow more for local consumption and export.

There is a lot of demand for flour in the DRC. This has stimulated high productivity in the sector as well as the good price of the commodity. Wheat farming is a lucrative venture with the price of the commodity estimated to be about US$710 per tonne.
