Zambia’s e-government division, the SMART Zambia Institute, is enhancing trade facilitation and revenue collection by installing six internet connection stations at the Nakonde border post in Muchinga province.
According to SMART Zambia, this initiative aims to improve internet connectivity for the Zambia Revenue Authority, leading to quicker cargo clearance and increased efficiency. This effort is part of Zambia’s broader strategy to leverage technology for better trade facilitation, aligning with the government’s goals of boosting regional trade and economic integration.

Additionally, Zambia is pursuing various initiatives to strengthen its ICT sector, including the ZamFree Initiative, which provides free public WiFi in select towns, and the country’s first National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy that promotes safe AI practices. “To enhance trade facilitation and revenue collection, the SMART Zambia Muchinga province team has successfully installed six internet access points at the Nakonde border post,” stated SMART Zambia.
