During a recent meeting with  Italian President Mattarella, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema urged Italian investors to explore business opportunities in the production of electric car parts through partnerships with Zambian investors.

President Mattarella’s visit to Zambia is very significant as the visit is taking place after a gap of 30 years of a visit by the Italian President to the country.

President Hichilema, during the meeting, pointed out that Zambia offered raw materials for the production of electric cars. The partnership in the sector has the potential mutual benefit with appropriate value addition within the country. He warmly acknowledged the Italian government for its continued support to Zambia in various ways through the EU-AU partnership. He added that Italy played a key role in Zambia’s efforts to access part of the 150-billion Euros EU-AU infrastructure funds for Africa. President Mattarella observed that Italian companies have played a key role in Zambia’s economic development through investments in sectors such as construction and agribusiness and pledged his country’s full support towards Zambia’s positive relationship with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to restructure debt. The Italian President also assured that Zambia can count on his country for full support while emphasising the need to revitalise old relations.
