Zambia to implement programs to help farmers by providing timely inputs

Zambia’s North Western Province Minister, Robert Lihefu says 67,973 farmers would benefit under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) for the 2023-24 farming season

Zambia’s North Western Province Minister, Robert Lihefu says 67,973 farmers would benefit under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) for the 2023-24 farming season. He said that the government was working towards ensuring that inputs were delivered to the farmers in the province on time.

The Minister was speaking at the 2023 Provincial Agricultural and Commercial Show in Solwezi district.

He disclosed that about 100 metric tonnes of Compound D fertilizer had already been delivered to Solwezi and Kalumbila districts.  Lihefu said the Food Reserve Agency(FRA) was also expected to purchase 40,000 metric tonnes of white maize during the 2023 crop marketing season. FRA is operating 117 satellite depots in North-Western Province and so far the Agency has purchased 1,000 metric tonnes of white maize.
