COMMON Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) secretary general Chileshe Kapwepwe said the forthcoming COMESA Heads of State Summit gives Zambia an opportunity to enhance regional integration within the regional bloc and to leverage the wider market.

Kapwepwe has announced that Zambia has taken over the chairmanship of authority for COMESA, placing Republican President Hakainde Hichilema as representative of the regional body at any continental regional forum.

Zambia will host the 22nd COMESA Heads of State Summit on June 8 this year under the theme: Economic integration for a thriving COMESA anchored on green investment, value addition, and tourism.

The summit will be preceded by a meeting for foreign affairs ministers on June 6, which will address issues of peace and security in the region and report to the main summit.
