Zambia is moving towards a connected digital future. The Ministry of Science and Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Liquid Telecommunications, Limited, based in New Jersey, US recently to achieve the project objectives including the establishment of a commercialized data centre in Zambia.
Mr Felix Mutati, the Minister of Science and Technology, said that the establishment of a commercial data centre was crucial towards meeting the private and public sector data hosting needs. This, he said, would enable global internet companies to establish Zambia as a regional data hub. Under the MOU, fibre projects will be set up in Zambia, to strengthen connectivity between towns. It will also help connect citizens better. Schemes that will be implemented under the project include establishing connectivity in schools to enhance the educational standards in the country. Healthcare is another sector that will benefit from the project.
