The Energy Regulation Body (ERB) of Zambia has recorded a 78 percent increase in the number of licenses. This year, it had issued to 64 organizations in the first quarter of this year as against 36 licenses issued in the same period last year. The increase in the number of licenses was due to the increase in demand for energy products and services on the backdrop of the supply challenges.
Of the 64 licenses, 21 were construction permits, nine export of butane, which is a colorless gas with a faint petroleum-like odor, and seven for solar, transportation and importation of lubricants. Further, a combination of petroleum products and retail sites had six licenses each issued while one was issued for retail of petroleum products.
