The Zambian Government has reiterated its dedication to establishing Zambia as a key regional aviation hub, with progress underway on the Mansa Airport upgrade through a strategic collaboration with China Jiangsu International.

Minister of Transport and Logistics, Museba Frank Tayali, MP, shared this update during a high-level meeting with Som Qinbo, Chairman of China Jiangsu International. He warmly welcomed the Chinese delegation, emphasising Zambia’s appreciation for the long-standing and productive partnership with the People’s Republic of China.

Highlighting the historic ties dating back to 1964, Tayali cited milestone projects like the TAZARA Railway, a symbol of cooperation between Chairman Mao Zedong and Zambia’s first President, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda.

“Africa’s development depends on strong, modern infrastructure,” he said. “Zambia’s central location on the continent gives us a strategic advantage, and we are committed to becoming a regional aviation hub through initiatives like the Mansa Airport upgrade.”

The project, valued at K740 million and structured under a Design and Build model, is scheduled for completion in 17 months. As of now, nine months into the project, progress is at 7%, with both the mobilisation and design review phases completed.
