Zain Group’s financial services division, known for delivering cutting-edge technologies and digital lifestyle solutions across eight countries in the Middle East and Africa, has introduced the ‘Bede’ Digital Wallet in Sudan.

This secure and user-friendly platform enables Zain customers in Sudan to perform various financial transactions directly from their mobile phones—no traditional bank account or payment card needed. Importantly, Bede supports both basic feature phones and smartphones, ensuring accessibility for a wide segment of the Sudanese population.

In its initial phase, the wallet offers essential financial services such as person-to-person transfers, mobile airtime top-ups, bill payments, merchant purchases, and cash-in/cash-out functions via a broad network of certified agents across local markets and neighborhoods.

The launch event took place in Port Sudan, attended by key figures including members of the Sovereign Council, officials from federal and state ministries, ambassadors, Zain executives, banking partners, fintech experts, and media representatives.

Malek Hammoud, Zain Group’s Chief Investment and Digital Officer, highlighted that introducing Bede is a significant step in Sudan’s digital transformation journey. The wallet is designed to enhance financial inclusion, particularly for families, women, and youth, by simplifying daily financial tasks. Already successfully launched in Bahrain, Bede is recognised for its ease of use, reliability, and performance—qualities Zain aims to bring to Sudan and its other markets.

Hammoud added that Bede aligns with evolving consumer lifestyles and goes beyond traditional telecom services. Its launch in Sudan supports Zain’s ‘4WARD–Progress with Purpose’ strategy, aimed at strengthening its regional presence in the fintech space through innovation, scale, and technology.

The rollout of Bede in Sudan is structured in three phases. The first includes core services now available. The second will expand integration with local banks and introduce additional services such as paying electricity bills and accessing government services. The final phase will add full banking functionalities, including international remittances, savings, loans, and interoperability with all Sudanese banks.

Furthermore, the wallet complies with national regulations on anti-money laundering, anti-corruption, and customer data protection. It delivers a secure digital experience, prioritising user privacy and financial security.
