World Bank Project to Provide Safe Water Supply to Mozambique’s Nametil Town

The World Bank has pledged to fund the construction of a new water supply system in Nametil town, Mogovolas district, in the northern Mozambican province of Nampula. The new facility, which is budgeted at USD 50 million, is part of the Safe Water Project for towns and rural areas, under implementation in Nampula and the central province of Zambézia.

In order to implement the project, a World Bank technical mission, represented by Chantal Richie, travelled to Mogovolas district recently to meet with the local government to assess the technical conditions.

According to Orlando Dias, the Mogovolas district Permanent Secretary, the district has the lowest water coverage rate of the province’s twenty-three districts. It is estimated at around 35 percent of the district’s 550,000 inhabitants.

Mogovolas has serious water problems and the local government authorities were looking forward to making the project operational.
