The World Bank has agreed to extend a US$60 million soft loan to rehabilitate Kapichira Hydro power of Malawi in the next six months as disclosed by President Lazarus Chakwera during the commissioning of the 20 Mw Golomoti Solar Project. The JCM Solar Power as Independent Power Producer (IPP) is adding 80 Mw of energy to the national grid from its Salima project contributing 60 Mw and Golomoti 20 Mw.

The President said the rehabilitation of Kapichira was crucial to ensure that the country meets the target of having 1000 Mw supplied to the grid within the next three years.He assured that the rehabilitation will contribute to a significant drop in blackouts by christmas.The President also has urged bureaucracy to expedite Independent Power Producers (IPP) to speed up their processes and support the energy needs of the country.
