Women young professionals in Ghana are on a roll now to play a dominant role in the nation building. To help them in that task is a startup namely Solartaxi that motivates them to find greener solutions for the automobile industry. The start-up, mainly driven by women, is promoting the use of electric vehicles across the country. Solartaxi Ghana is into manufacture of electric automobiles from scratch.
These women workers were charged up and had differing motivations. For instance, some wanted to have a name etched in the automobile sector believed as a male bastion. The other set of professionals wanted their work to be fully utilized for a national cause of prime importance, thereby contributing to nation building. For the third segment of women, the overarching reason to get into the sector was to become financially independent.
But the sailing does not seem to be a smooth one going by the imponderables that the eclectic vehicle industry is upfront with. George Appiah , the Co-founder at Solartaxi Ghana, said that the biggest challenge the industry is facing is the steep taxes that makes the manufacture and assembling of the vehicles costly. They urge the government to come out with a package of incentives to promote the automobile sector to withstand the competition and to bring down the cost of the automobiles to make them affordable to the common man.
