Egypt’s Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali el Moselhi said farmers have delivered 3.3 million tons of local wheat to the state so far during the local wheat harvest season. The harvest season started in April. The ministry has identified 450 points to source local wheat this year. The ministry hopes to hit the targeted sourcing of local wheat.  In March this year, official figures released by the ministry said that the country’s strategic reserve of wheat was sufficient to last  through 3.4 months.

Moselhi said his ministry targeted to procure 6 million tons of wheat from local farmers during the April harvest season.  The ministry has allocated LE 3 billion  for this purpose. The government has put in place additional incentives to encourage farmers to hand their local wheat to the state at LE 65 per ardeb (One ardeb is equal to 150 kilograms).
