West Africa’s top energy policymakers, financiers, and industry leaders will convene in Accra from 2–3 December 2025 for the West Africa Energy Cooperation Summit (WAECS), hosted under the patronage of Ghana’s Ministry of Energy and Green Transition. Themed “Building Regional Resilience,” the Summit aims to strengthen collaboration across ECOWAS and mobilise financing for a sustainable, integrated clean energy future.
ATIDI will lead sponsorship of the event, joined by Endeavour Energy and Denham Capital, reflecting growing African and international commitment to regional energy integration. ATIDI, a pan-African insurer with USD 8.9 billion in exposure, has supported renewable initiatives such as Togo’s 42MW Sokodé solar plant through its Regional Liquidity Support Facility (RLSF)—a mechanism designed to de-risk Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and build investor confidence.
According to Aliyu Alhassan Yahaya, RLSF Underwriter at ATIDI, the institution is dedicated to “investments that advance energy access and inclusive economic growth,” reinforcing Africa’s shift toward climate-conscious, innovation-driven development.
The Summit will feature discussions on renewable energy, gas-to-power, digitalisation, regional power trade, and financing strategies to de-risk clean energy investments. It will also spotlight innovation, technology, and youth inclusion as catalysts for Africa’s energy transformation.
Ghana’s Energy Transition Framework targets net-zero emissions by 2070, prioritising solar and cleaner generation technologies, with natural gas playing a key transitional role. This aligns with broader African efforts to pursue integrated, diversified energy systems for industrialisation and equitable growth.
The event will gather high-level delegates including H.E. Jeremiah Kpan Koung (Vice President of Liberia), H.E. Dr. Dele Alake (Nigeria’s Minister for Solid Minerals Development), H.E. Nani Juwara (Gambia’s Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Mines), and other institutional and private sector leaders from across the region.

Following WAECS, the YES! On The Road Ghana youth initiative (3–4 December) will promote mentorship and innovation among emerging energy professionals, complementing Ghana’s clean energy ambitions. The 2025 Summit underscores West Africa’s growing momentum toward homegrown, resilient, and equitable energy solutions, marking a shift from dependency models to a new era of regional cooperation and sustainable industrialisation.
