With an eye to empower innovative start-ups, Vodacom Tanzania Plc has launched the new season of its Digital Accelerator program after the completion of the 2020-2021 group in the programme. The spokesman of the company said that Vodacom believed that innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit were vital factors for meeting the target of a strong digital economy in Tanzania and explored collaborations and innovations that will fulfil this goal. It has a tie up with Smart Lab, a prominent tech and media company in Africa to run the programme offering mentorship, technical assistance and overall support. Start-ups that graduated have been able to raise additional funding from investors and complete product development.

Termed as VodacomDigital Accelerator, the program empowers start-ups that have innovative solutions by facilitating them to realise their aspirations in fintech, edutech, healthtech, entertainment, tourism, agriculture, cybersecurity and e-commerce. The finalists in the 2020-21 were chosen from an initial 500 applicants from 18 regions. The finalists in the round were Smart Class, an edtechplatform; Hashtag Pools, an ecommerce operator; Ninsiimae-Dispensary and MyHiwhich deals in health incurance services.
The selected start-ups will undergo an initial program that includes mentoring from experienced and professional mentors from Vodacom, Smart Lab, and other eminent mentors.
