Vivo Energy Namibia is pushing forward with its ambitious growth strategy in the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) market, marked by the introduction of the ShellGas brand and the opening of a new LPG filling facility in Tsumeb. This follows the national rollout of GasIt distribution points at Shell and Engen fuel stations.
Operating 75 Shell and 58 Engen service stations across Namibia, Vivo Energy entered the LPG market in 2023 as part of its broader plan to diversify energy offerings. The company described the ShellGas soft launch as a key step in its commitment to offering cleaner, safer, and more accessible energy through the trusted Shell brand.
The newly inaugurated Tsumeb plant features a 114m³ LPG storage tank, a semi-automatic cylinder filling line, and infrastructure for loading and unloading bulk trucks. It will serve as a strategic supply center for northern Namibia.
Hans Paulsen, Executive Vice President for East Africa at Vivo Energy, noted that the plant’s construction began in 2024 to support the continent’s shift toward cleaner fuels. He emphasized LPG’s role in reducing CO₂ emissions and improving energy access compared to traditional fuels like wood, charcoal, and paraffin.
