French-owned Group Vivendi Africa (GVA) — the parent company of CanalBox — is preparing to roll out fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) internet services in Ghana, beginning with Accra and Kumasi. The launch will mark GVA’s tenth African market, aligning with its mission to expand affordable, unlimited broadband connectivity across the continent.
A high-level GVA delegation led by CEO Jean-François Dubois met with Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, to discuss the commercial rollout and explore public–private collaboration to improve digital access.
Minister George praised GVA’s proposed pricing model as “revolutionary” and consistent with the government’s agenda to lower data costs and expand fibre coverage nationwide. He pledged to engage relevant ministries, including the Energy Ministry and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), to help address infrastructure challenges. The Minister also urged GVA to present a detailed implementation proposal outlining investment plans and areas requiring government facilitation.
George further suggested a bundling partnership between GVA and Canal+, combining broadband access with premium TV content — a move he said could transform Ghana’s pay-TV and internet market. He assured the delegation of the government’s readiness to support credible investors committed to advancing digital inclusion.
Dubois reaffirmed GVA’s commitment to Ghana, emphasizing plans to replicate its successful fibre model operating in nine other African countries, including Burkina Faso, DRC, Rwanda, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Gabon, Uganda, Benin, and Congo. GVA has already deployed over 40,000 km of fibre-optic infrastructure, serving 2.8 million homes and businesses across Africa.

The Ghana expansion follows Canal+’s recent acquisition of MultiChoice Group (94.39% stake) in October 2025, a move expected to strengthen Canal+’s content distribution and enhance GVA’s offerings through bundled internet and entertainment packages.
With government backing and rising demand for home broadband, GVA’s entry is expected to heighten competition, improve connectivity, and accelerate Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
