There is further twist to the US lifting sanctions on Sudan. The US seems to have accomplished two things at a time. One bringing trouble –torn Sudan into its side and, two, making the fragile economy normalize the relations with Israel. That way the US wants to send signals to countries in the Middle East that the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain are not alone in normalizing ties with Israel. The US strategy will be to bring around more countries in the Middle East and Africa in normalizing ties with Israel.

Analysts say these developments would give Israel a larger role to play in the Middle East geopolitical developments both in Africa and the Middle East. The normalization of relations, between Sudan and Israel, once upon a time arch rivals, therefore, is more than a symbolic gesture but a well calculated move to spread US strategic control over two geographies-Africa and the Middle East.
These developments did not happen in a vacuum. Mr. Netanyahu and Sudanese strong man, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan met earlier in Uganda. Way back in 1967, Israel, after a brief war, seized the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza. That led to Arab leaders meeting in Sudan to adopt the Khartoum Resolution known for its “three no’s”: no peace with Israel, no recognition of Israel, no negotiations with the Jewish state. That is the insight behind Benjamin Netanyahu’s remark about normalization as a tremendous turnaround. Many feel that it is not an end in itself but the beginning of a new chapter in Africa and the Middle East.
