The United States’ newly appointed ambassador to Kenya, Margaret (Meg) Cushing Whitman, has assumed office on August 1st. She assumes office at a critical time when Kenya is poised for political transition with elections scheduled for August 9th.
 Her appointment was approved unanimously by the U.S. Senate as the 18th US Ambassador to Kenya on July 14, 2022. The 65-year-old Whitman, the former candidate for Governor of California is not a career diplomat. She was former CEO and president of Hewlett Packard (HP). She has also served as Director in several corporate boards, including Procter & Gamble and General Motors. Whitman has an MBA from Harvard Business School and an AB in Economics from Princeton University. Her nomination was announced by U.S. President Joe Biden, to replace Kyle McCarter, who resigned in February after Biden took over the office of the President.
