The UN Refugee Agency Chief Filipo Grandi, said that US$ 150 million is needed for tackling the refugee crisis in Sudan created by the influx of war affected people to the country from the Northern region of Egypt -Tigray. The latest reports indicate that on an average five hundred people per day are crossing the borders and seek refuge in the rehabilitation camps in Sudan. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), needs about US$150 million dollars for the next six months to help the government of Sudan to manage this refugee crisis.

Sudan presently has 43,000 Ethiopian refugees fleeing from the intense fighting. This is taking place at a time Sudan is facing its own economic and political crisis. The country has been passing through a fragile political transition since the April 2019 ouster of long served leader Omar al-Bashir. The main reason for his ouster was economic hardships caused to the citizens. .
