During his stay in Nigeria, Guterres visited a rehabilitation centre for victims of Boko-Haram and an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. The civil war continuing for a long has debilitated the Nigerian economy, which is a major oil-producing and the largest producer in Africa. With the focus on oil exploration and mining, agriculture, which used to be the mainstay of the economy, took a backseat. Now the west African country is focussing more on agriculture due to the huge volume of foodstuff imports the country is facing.
