The tiny African country Guinea -Bissu has elected its former prime minister and ex-army chief Umaro Cissoko Embalo as the new president. He defeated his rival Domingos Simoes Pereira, bagging 54% of the votes cast and will succeed President Jose Mario Vaz, the present incumbent whose tenure was marred by political infighting, an ill-functioning parliament and corruption. Domingos Simoes Pereira, head of the country’s ruling PAIGC party, has bagged 46.45 percent. However, Pereira told his supporters he would contest the result at the Supreme Court. The west African country has been undergoing political chaos for quite some time and that made the people weary of political class.
