Ukraine’s Cabinet Ministry has announced that said that a ship carrying 30,000 metric tons of grain departed for Ethiopia from Odesa Oblast via the UN-backed grain corridor.  The statement reported that Ukraine will be providing $11.4 million worth of wheat to Ethiopia and Somalia to deal with the food crisis.

 President of Ukraine Zelensky had announced last month that his country’s wheat will be saved for people who are dying of hunger in the world, including Somalia. On Sep 15, the ship chartered by the United Nations left the Black Sea port in Ukraine and docked in Djibouti. The wheat is expected to help millions of people who have been affected by drought and civil wars in Ethiopia and Somalia.

The Russian war on Ukraine since Feb 2022, triggered a food and fuel crisis for Africa that depended heavily on wheat and oil from Ukraine.
