Uganda’s Covid-19 Taskforce has proposed to President Museveni to reopen Entebbe airport, borders, places of worship and universities for final year medical students. However, the taskforce maintained the closure of schools, bars and public gyms, among others and suggested that ministries of Education and Health should examine the possibility of reopening the schools.

The taskforce meeting came up with some key recommendations to the President such as ;

that Entebbe airport and borders should reopen on October 1.

Covid regulations should be strictly enforced in Kampala with penalties

a special lane for ambulances with police escort.

That foreigners on a tourist visa should possess a Covid free certificate valid for 72 hours.

President Museveni is slated to address the nation about the decisions but no date has been set.

Mr Museveni imposed a lockdown and closed all education institutions in March 20 which was followed by closure of public transport, Entebbe airport, borders, worship centres, markets and other businesses except agri business. In June and July, several businesses such as transport were partially opened.

In July, President announced that a final decision would be announced in September about the reopening of schools and other businesses that were closed.
