Uganda’s opposition leader Bobi Wine has told a media house that the human rights situation in Uganda has worsened since the January 14 election. In the election, the long time ruler Yoweri Museveni was declared the winner of the controversial vote.  The election campaigns were dotted with several bloody episodes against Museveni’s opponents and their supporters. Hundreds of opposition activists and supporters have gone missing.

Bobi Wine maintained that  Museveni’s swearing-in was illegal. He is not a legitimate president and neither is the opposition. Members of parliament were relegated to the opposition courtesy of their numbers and courtesy of the machinations of the regime. He said that he was going to focus on mobilizing and enlightening the people of Uganda about their plight and their ability to make a difference on their own.

Bobi Wine said that he would continue the struggle from the parliament as well. Hitting against the international community, he said that the international community, which professes values and rights did not rise up to the levels expected of it. In a way they betrayed the people of Uganda and even alleged that General Museveni was funded by the West.
