Uganda Secures €270M Afreximbank Loan to Drive Infrastructure, Trade, and Industrial Growth

The Ugandan government has secured a €270 million, 10-year loan from the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) to support key infrastructure and development initiatives under its 2024/25 national budget. The financing will focus on sectors such as agriculture value addition, oil and gas, energy, transport infrastructure, and the creation of industrial parks and export zones.

Finance Minister Matia Kasaija called the loan a milestone, highlighting its role in fast-tracking transformative projects and boosting human capital development. Afreximbank’s decision to open its East African regional office in Kampala further strengthens its partnership with Uganda, placing the country at the center of regional trade facilitation. The office will host the Africa Trade Centre, enhancing Uganda’s status as an investment hub.
