Dubai-based halal fast-food chain ChicKing that specialises in fried chicken, has announced its plans to open 30 fast food outlets in Kenya over the next five years. The first outlet will be opened in Mombasa next month. The Dubai based fast food company has tied up with M/s Crispy Ltd the local franchise for the quick-service restaurants.
Speaking to the media, ChicKing spokesperson said that, after the opening of its first store in June, it plans to open the second store also in Mombasa and by the end of this year, it plans to open two stores in Nairobi. The outlet will compete with rival international brands that have already opened in Kenya such as US-based fast-food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and Burger King. Many more international restaurant chains such as Sandwich chain Subway, ice cream seller Cold Stone Creamery, Japanese firm Toridoll and Domino’s Pizza have recently increased their outlets in Kenya. According to a study by McKinsey & Co, global players are getting attracted to the emerging markets such as Africa for growth due to factors like rising disposable household incomes, fast economic growth, and a young population.
