Twiga Foods, a leading Kenyan agri-tech and food distribution company, has announced a temporary suspension of operations in Nairobi as part of the final phase of an extensive business transformation strategy. The move is intended to streamline operations and better position the company for long-term sustainability and growth.
Founded in 2014, Twiga Foods has become a cornerstone in Kenya’s agricultural supply chain by leveraging digital solutions to connect farmers directly with retailers. This innovative model has significantly reduced the role of intermediaries, minimised post-harvest losses, and provided small-scale farmers with improved market access. At the same time, retailers benefit from reliable access to affordable fresh produce and essential consumer goods.
As part of its restructuring efforts, Twiga will use this brief pause in Nairobi to establish a new distribution centre in a more strategic location. The company anticipates resuming full operations by August, with a renewed focus on efficiency and improved service delivery.
Twiga has confirmed that the ongoing transformation will involve another round of internal restructuring, particularly impacting roles within the supply chain department. This follows a recent wave of organisational changes, including layoffs. The company emphasised that these adjustments are being carried out transparently, respectfully, and in compliance with Kenyan labour laws and its internal policies.
This restructuring aims to better align the company’s operational model with changing market dynamics. Twiga plans to concentrate more resources on core areas such as technology, business intelligence, and digital infrastructure. These capabilities are seen as critical to enhancing service delivery and creating value for both customers and partners.

Twiga emphasised that these strategic moves are essential to strengthening its foundation for future growth. The company is working closely with all stakeholders—including customers, suppliers, and partners—to ensure a seamless transition and to minimise disruptions.
“These steps mark the culmination of Twiga’s journey to transform its business model. They are critical to ensuring financial resilience, enhancing competitiveness, and securing Twiga’s ability to sustainably serve Kenya’s evolving retail landscape,” the company stated.
