Ethiopia’s Ministry of Mines and Turkish company Çalık Holding signed three cooperation agreements including for natural gas exploration. The Memorandum of Understandings between the two sides was signed recently between the Minister of Mines Takele Uma and representatives of the Çalık holding and its subsidiary companies.

The agreements will help cement cooperation in Ethiopia’s natural gas exploration and development, fertilizer, and gold production. The signing of the three agreements between the two sides came weeks after a 13-member high-level delegation of the Turkish company visited Ethiopia to explore investment opportunities.

During the visit, Minister of Mines and Calik Holding company chairman, Ahmet Çalık, agreed to work jointly to engage in the development of natural gas and fertilizer production. Çalık Holding has interests in the energy, construction, mining, finance, textile, and digital sectors in 31 countries across 5 continents. Of late, Turkish companies have been scouting for investments across the world and are more focussed on the African region.
