Turkey keen to promote bilateral ties with Zimbabwe

The opening of Turkish Embassy in  Harare last month  reflects Turkey’s commitment to promote bilateral ties with Zimbabwe, observed  Mr Hakan Kivanc, the Turkish Ambassador to Zimbabwe. Speaking at the commemorations of the Fifth Anniversary of the July 15 failed coup attempts by the Fetullah Terrorist Organisation (FETO) Kivanc lauded the Government of Zimbabwe for not tolerating the rebel movement against Turkey.  The diplomat was alluding to FETO, a movement that infiltrated Turkey in the 1970s under the guise of a charitable education effort and ended up plotting an insurrection to topple the Turkish regime in 2016.

He added that both the countries should perpetuate and cement diplomatic ties and welcomed the opening of the Zimbabwean Embassy in Ankara. The visit by (Speaker of the National Assembly) Mr (Jacob) Mudenda and his delegation was an encouraging development, he added.

He informed that a Turkish construction firm has already expressed interest in investing in the revival of the National Railways of Zimbabwe. Some more Turkish companies have shown interest to invest in various sectors of the economy such as roads construction and energy.
