A Turkish company has built an imposing financial complex in the heart of the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which many feel is much faster than what the Chinese used to do. People living nearby say that the Turks worked day and night to complete the construction much faster than the Chinese.

Under the leadership of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Ankara has invested a lot in the continent including the Democratic Republic of Congo over the past two decades, to develop diplomatic but also economic ties. Some of the marvelous constructions of Turks include a mosque in Ghana, stadiums in Rwanda or Senegal, and airports in several countries.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo,  Turks built a number of edifices such as finance centers, defense installations, infrastructure, schools, colleges, etc, which carried the tag of quality construction built in record time, edging out the Chinese, who are known for their speed and meticulous implementation of projects.

The prime contractor in the DRC from Turkey is the company called  Milvest, a subsidiary of the Turkish holding company Miller. The company’s construction activities provided employment to many. They built hotels, financial centers, educational institutions, etc. The cost of the work towards the financial hub was estimated at US$290 million, pre-financed by the company. Milvest is also investing US$60 million in the hotel which it will manage for 49 years. The financial center is scheduled to be inaugurated on December 2.  The elections in DRC is scheduled for the 20th of December, where the current president Félix Tshisekedi is a candidate for a second term.

In addition to the financial center, the Milvest company is in the running for the renovation and extension of Kinshasa airport, a project initially awarded to a Chinese company but not completed. The construction of an urban cable car is also planned in an outlying, hilly, and congested area of Kinshasa, for which Milvest is in contract with the French company Poma, a cable transport specialist.
