After sacking the Prime Minister and suspending the parliament and granting himself judicial powers on a July 25, Tunisia’s President Kais Saied has finally appointed a new government. The president’s office issued a statement saying that a decree has been issued naming the head of government and its members. Soon the state television broadcasted a swearing-in ceremony.

The new government has the country’s first-ever female prime minister Najla Bouden a geologist by profession and includes 25 ministers. But in effect President himself will be the head of the administration as he has kept back the power of her office. Bouden, 63, stated that the fight against corruption will be of priority of the new government, Tunisia has been rocked by widespread demonstrations since the last few weeks protesting against Saied’s power grab.
