Tunisia’s President Kais Saied on Monday appointed a new government by decree. This development has come 11 weeks after he dismissed the earlier government, which attracted a lot of criticism from the international community.

Saied dismissed the prime minister along with suspension of parliament, thereby assuming absolute powers unto himself. Many people consider this as a coup. He also assumed the judicial powers since July 25.  Najla Bouden, is the first ever female prime minister. The responsibility of the prime minister has been cut short and most of the powers of administration has been kept to himself by the president.

Bouden is  a geologist and was appointed on September 29. More than two months have been lapsed between the sacking of Hichem Mechichi, former prime minister and the appointment of the new prime minister. There are 25 ministers in her cabinet, which declared a war against corruption. There are resentments against the president for his authoritarian rule, which had recently erupted into a demonstration by more than 6000 people in central Tunis.
