(3 Minutes Read)

Tunisia has announced an ambitious plan to upgrade and expand Tunis-Carthage International Airport in the capital city, with the project expected to cost around 3 billion Tunisian dinars (approximately USD 950 million). The news was reported by the local Arabic-language outlet Mosaiquefm.net.

During a parliamentary session, Minister of Transport Rachid Al-Amari revealed that the expansion is designed to significantly boost the airport’s capacity, enabling it to accommodate up to 18 million passengers per year. As part of the broader development initiative, the project will also feature the creation of an elevated metro line that will directly connect the airport to downtown Tunis, improving mobility and easing congestion.

According to Al-Amari, the government plans to pursue a turnkey delivery method, awarding the project through a negotiated contract following a prequalification stage. This approach is intended to streamline the implementation process and ensure efficient project execution.

In addition to the Tunis-Carthage upgrade, the government is also evaluating the potential development of a new airport in the northern city of Bizerte as part of its broader strategy to modernize and expand the nation’s aviation infrastructure.
